A well-packed bag lets you focus on worship instead of small worries. This checklist covers what most pilgrims find genuinely useful for Makkah and Madinah.

Ihram and Clothing

Men should carry two sets of unstitched white Ihram cloths plus a belt for comfort. Women should pack modest, loose, comfortable clothing, with an extra scarf or two. For the rest of the trip, lightweight breathable clothes work best, with a light layer for air-conditioned hotels and mosques.

Scent-Free Toiletries

Once in the state of Ihram, scented products are not allowed. Pack unscented soap, shampoo, deodorant and lotion in advance, so you do not have to hunt for them on arrival.

Footwear

Bring comfortable, slip-on sandals or slippers for Tawaf and daily walking. Choose a pair that is broken in, because you will walk long distances. A small shoe bag helps you carry them inside the mosque.

Health and Medication

Carry your personal medication in its original packaging, with a copy of the prescription. Add basics such as pain relief, rehydration salts, blister plasters, lip balm and a small first-aid kit.

Useful Extras

  • A small backpack or cross-body bag for the Haram
  • A reusable water bottle
  • A power bank and a universal adapter
  • A compact prayer mat
  • A pocket Quran or dua booklet
  • A notebook for your supplications
  • Photocopies of your passport, visa and booking details

Final Tip

Pack light, leave space for Zamzam and gifts, and double-check your airline’s baggage allowance before you leave.
